500 Euro Penalty for Decorating Your Car

Getting into the holiday spirit with festive car decorations could come at a hefty price this Christmas, as drivers face fines of up to €500 for breaching road safety regulations.

Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has issued a clear warning: adorning your vehicle—whether inside or outside—can compromise road safety and may result in penalties.

Decorations that alter the shape of a vehicle, obstruct the driver’s vision, or pose risks to other road users are strictly prohibited. While antlers on the windows or a red nose on the radiator grill might spread cheer, they can also be distracting, reduce visibility, and become hazardous if they break or detach while on the move.

Moreover, any items not officially approved for use on vehicles may be considered a violation of traffic laws. Drivers caught with such festive embellishments could find themselves paying for their holiday enthusiasm with a fine that could dampen their seasonal cheer.
